Golfing is a lot like life, and the challenges in both define who we are. We spoke to current professional golfer and adidas athlete Ludvig Åberg about his transition to the United States and how he keeps a level head on the course.
adidas: How old were you when you started golfing?
Åberg: I was introduced to the game of golf at eight years of age.
adidas: Who inspired you to play and what is an early memory that made you choose golf professionally?
Åberg: My dad introduced me to the sport. I don’t have a specific memory but, I do remember watching it on TV and creating memories with my friends on the golf course, playing just for fun. This led me to pursue professional golf.
adidas: Who has been your biggest cheerleader throughout your time with sport?
Åberg: My family has always been my biggest cheerleader. They never pushed me or forced me to do anything, [and they] always ensured that I enjoyed what I was doing.
adidas: Did you play golf in college and when did you sign with adidas?
Åberg: I played golf at Texas Tech University. I have been with Adidas since 2022. I was an NIL athlete with them starting in the summer of my senior year and then signed as a professional in June 2023.
adidas: Did you have any struggles you had to overcome during that time?
Åberg: The biggest struggle I had to overcome was coming to college in America. It was tricky with many new things and changes, including a new language. But it made me mature and realize I had to do a lot of things on my own.
adidas: What does mental strength mean to you in your sport? How do you stay disciplined, focused, and overall content through the ups and downs of sports?
Åberg: There are always going to be ups and downs in golf, and in sports in general, especially in golf since you don’t win a lot of the tournaments you compete in. It’s very important to stay disciplined because it’s a long season. Staying true to who you are is crucial.
adidas: What does it mean to you to be partnered with adidas?
Åberg: Coming from Sweden, adidas is a brand that I’ve always associated with sport. As an athlete, I want to have everything I can to compete at my best. That’s why this partnership is so important for me. I know that the team is constantly working to create footwear, apparel, and accessories that golfers everywhere will appreciate. That devotion to our sport is what makes me extremely proud to be an adidas athlete and represent the 3-Stripes out on the course.
