Balancing a rigorous school schedule at [my university] helped me with that balance, too.adidas: What does mental strength mean to you in your sport? How do you stay disciplined, focused, and overall content through the ups and downs of sports? &nbsp;Zhang: Mental strength is a key factor in performance in my golf game; I stay focused by reading, meditating, and connecting with my teammates and friends at school during my own time. Meet our adidas athlete Ludvig Åberg and hear his thoughts on discipline, winning, and what it takes to play at the highest level in golf.

My dad competed as a midAM and has always [played at] a high level especially during my childhood. He practiced quite a lot so I would usually go out with him to the golf course to practice and play. &nbsp;adidas: Who has been your biggest cheerleader throughout your time with sport?Grant: My whole family, my dad has helped me more practically and guided me through every step of my journey. From being a coach to now helping me more with things outside the actual course. But there’s also a lot of people cheering me on from behind the scenes that I’m very grateful for. Family and close friends who are involved in different ways in my life and sport. &nbsp;adidas: What is a career accomplishment (or a few) you are most proud of? &nbsp;Grant: I’m obviously very proud of every win that I’ve had, representing Sweeden on many occasions, being an adidas athlete and so many more things.&nbsp;adidas: How do you amp yourself up to compete? &nbsp;Grant: (Laughs) I don’t have to amp myself up before a round. I love competing and it makes me more focused and nervous so to amp myself up would not necessarily be a good thing for me. I would rather try to stay in the present and focus on the things that matter and that I can control.adidas: What does mental strength mean to you in your sport? How do you stay disciplined, focused, and overall content through the ups and downs of sports? &nbsp;Grant: To me, it’s adaptation, discipline, and mindset. Regardless of if I’m on the golf course in the heat of the moment, practicing, in the gym, or just living my non-golfing life, to be able to adapt is a huge part of conquering all the challenges that I come across. To be a professional in an individual sport requires a lot of discipline and planning. Not only is there not a coach who tells you what to do all the time, but there’s also no teammates to push or challenge you when the motivation is lacking. Knowing that the only thing that stands in the way of my goals [is myself], is a satisfying thought and yet the most difficult one. We connected with golfer Collin Morikawa on a life-long tie to the green, from competing at a young age to the practices that keep him sharp today. &nbsp;adidas: How old were you when you started your sport, and what or who inspired you to begin?Morikawa: Both my parents got me into the sport... I took my first lesson when I was five.adidas: What’s an early memory of your sport that made you want to pursue it professionally? &nbsp;Morikawa: Competing at a very early age, 8 years old, against other kids around the country. I loved not only winning but trying to compete and be the best golfer I could be. Traveling 20 to 30 weeks a year, across the country and the world. Balancing travel for golf, life, and learning how the body handles stress is a challenge. Learning how to adjust, eat properly, workout properly is a big hurdle; that is a challenge everyday as a professional golfer.adidas: Who has been your biggest cheerleader throughout your time with the sport? How have they supported you? &nbsp;Morikawa: My parents and wife. My parents have been there every step of the way. My dad would take me to all my tournaments and be there. My wife now travels with me, good or bad day she is always there for me.adidas: What does mental strength mean to you in your sport? How do you stay disciplined, focused, and overall content through the ups and downs of sports? &nbsp;Morikawa: Mental game is a big aspect of golf. Many players, men and women, are very talented physically but the mental game is what separates some of the best players in the world. Stay sharp, reassess, allow yourself to understand what you’ve done and be true to yourself, not lie to yourself on where you are. Look at it in a small view and a 3000-foot perspective.adidas: How do you amp yourself up before you compete?Morikawa: I don’t really do this. It’s a normal thing for me to be ready for that 1st hole on a Thursday. I show up and know what my job is, what I’m trying to complete and accomplish for the week. For a shoe with an even number of eyelets, thread the laces diagonally across through the second eyelets, creating an “X” on top of the shoe.3. For a shoe with an odd number of eyelets, run the laces straight up the inside of the shoe through the second eyelets, then diagonally across into the third eyelets, creating an “X” shape.4. Run the laces straight up the inside of the shoe into the next open eyelet, then cross them diagonally and run them through the outside of the next eyelet up. This decorative style loops the laces together straight down the middle of the shoe. It’s the opposite approach of traditional crisscross lacing patterns. To really make the style pop, try thick, round and colorful laces that contrast with the color of the shoe (for example: white laces on black shoes).1. Take the lace straight across and through the bottom eyelets on the outside of the shoe. Adjust the lace so there’s an equal amount of lace on each side of the bottom of the eyelet.2. Take each lace diagonally across the shoe, then wrap them around each other in the middle and string them back through the inside of the next open eyelet. Repeat this step by continuing to loop the laces together in the middle and stringing them through the next eyelets. Finish at the top of the shoe with a knot. &nbsp;<h2>Missing Laces</h2><figure class="image image_resized" style="width:100%;"><img style="aspect-ratio:827/1080;" src="https://brand.assets.adidas.com/image/upload/v1723668238/edi_fw23_How_to_Lace_Sneakers_blog_image_06_8b1007b164.gif" width="827" height="1080"></figure> In this style, the laces are hidden along the inside of the shoe, making it appear as if your shoes are missing laces. The novelty style creates an incredibly loose fit that’s perfect for kicking it with your crew. Just don’t plan on busting a move on the dance floor.1. Take the lace straight across and through the bottom eyelets on the outside of the shoe. Adjust the lace so there’s an equal amount of lace on each side of the bottom of the eyelet.2. Run each lace straight up the inside of the shoe to the next eyelet and through, then up the outside of the eyelet and through. Continue stringing them in and out but never crossing over the middle of the shoe. At the top, tie a bow and tuck it behind the tongue. &nbsp;<h2>What is the proper way to lace sneakers? &nbsp;</h2>There is no right or wrong way to lace your sneakers. The classic way to lace them is by crossing each lace over the other and through each eyelet for a standard criss-cross lacing style.<h2>Do you lace sneakers over or under? &nbsp;</h2>Lacing over or under each eyelet will yield different looks, which is up to personal preference. Lacing over the eyelets will keep your laces more elevated on the outside of your shoe, and lacing under each eyelet will keep your laces closer to the tongue.<h2>How tight should you lace your shoes?</h2>How tight you lace your shoes is up to you. For lots of walking, you’ll want a lacing style that keeps your shoes snug to your feet. But for a style where you’re going for looks over functionality, you can opt for a looser lacing style.&nbsp;
